I've been thinking a lot about the situation, and one of my friends reminded me that it's much better to fight evil by doing good than by fighting it directly. Since i'm just a naive and kooky unscientist, i've pretty much decided not to take any direct action, legal or otherwise, against anyone on UseNet at this time. It's because i really believe that people who are actually good and who have good intentions can often commit evil behaviour without realizing it. So i've decided to continue discussing astronomy in my favorite newsgroup. This is my way of fighting the evil that is being done here... by making progress in the good. From Painius:
...i really believe that people who are actually good and who have good intentions can often commit evil behaviour without realizing it. Well, when someone's acting out in a manner that's consistently and gleefully malevolent, as demonstrated here by the sociopathetic 'maggot' crowd, it's hard to believe they're doin' it without realizing it. Then there's people like OG and Zinni, who can be a royal PITA, but are basically good and decent people. ..one of my friends reminded me that it's much better to fight evil by doing good than by fighting it directly. Such Gandihan / Franciscan pacificism may work with people who are basically good and decent. Not so sure it'll work with rabid dogs, though. :-) So i've decided to continue discussing astronomy in my favorite newsgroup. This is my way of fighting the evil that is being done here... by making progress in the good. Ah yes, "it's better to light a candle than to curse the darkness." What's a good astronomy-related subject to toss into the ring? How about the meteorological dynamics sustaining the great red spot on Jupiter? What keeps that sucka goin' anyhow? oc |
