Sorry if this is a stupid question, but if you have a 35-350mm zoom lens,
why do you use 89 mm?

I must have missed something too. I have a permanent zoom lens on my
non-SLR digital camera. I had it at the maximum optical zoom.

This is probably the true fl of lens - not the 35mm format equivalent.

As a rough guide the moon's diameter is ~1/100th of the fl of the lens or ~0.9 mm diameter on the camera sensor and seemed enlarged 65 times at a guess which is much too much for a small image. Try half this magnification or use the camera behind a binocular to get a larger image in the first place. If the bins introduce unwanted colour then kill the colour [greyscale] via your PSP software.

I hadn't thought of setting my camera to monochrome. I like that idea,
thanks.
