I support manned space flight and space stations but struggle to find
reasons to justify its cost. I'm looking for some specific tasks that
can not be performed remotely with robots or other things that can help
to do this (other than national pride and such). I've looked at NASA's
spinoffs in the past, and one thing that does jump to mind is all the
breakthroughs and ideas that have come into our lives as a result of
preparing for manned space flight; I'm not sure how many of these would
hold up well in an argument for manned space flight but will be taking
a look at the spinoff reports again to investigate this.

What manned spaceflight does is help us learn how to live and work in
space. That's a necessary step in becoming a spacefaring civilization,
and ultimately settling the stars.
