Ah nuts, I was going to write an answer and work in the SAO scam and government conspiracy and you beat me to it (I always new the Brownie Troops were in on this kind of conspiracy). In on it? IN ON IT? The Brownies are the brains behind the whole schmere. Not only that, but they make up the majority of the most elite assassins for the conspiracy. Come on now, really. Who would ever believe that sweet little brown-beanie-hatted moppet would be packin' a hatpin full of an untraceable, slow-acting neurotoxin? I am sorry, but I am so busy with doing public astronomy outreach in
Orange County and at Mt. Wilson Observatory to research this person's assertions. However, any elementary astronomy program that shows a digital orrery (sp.?) will show that this type of alignment has happened in the past many times with no ill effect. I have now wasted one minute thirty seconds on this post. In a nutshell, I have had to deal with fractured ceramics a lot during my time as an amateur astronomer, and I find lately that it is not worth my time to debunk it. Folks like Phil Plait can handle this issue. Go to badastronomy.com Tell your freind to develop his baloney filter. The earth being at the closest point to the sun and, 3. Jupiter and Saturn et. al. alligning on the other side of the sun; which will cause the earth to go out of orbit, tornados, earthquakes etc. I know about the "Jupiter Effect" and "Harmonic Convergence" years ago. but; Is it true that we're going to experience such a "rare" configuration soon? |

The Solar System has been around for roughly 4 Billion years. So . . . 4 Billion / 2600 = 1,538,461.53... This conjunction (alignment) has already happened over 1.5 Million times. The Earth is still in its orbit, last time I checked. And - - we suffer numerous tornados every year - earthquakes are a weekly, if not daily occurance, though obviously not in the same place Suggest to your lunatic friend to find more appropriate thrills (and a much better education) than scaring the sh*t out of friends and acquaintances, with utterly absurd nonsense. Cheers, Larry G. I'm sure he will say that we pop back into orbit when the planets pass by. I tried explaining to him that the fossil record shows no huge floods etc. My friend acts as if he was given a post hypnotic suggestion. He is obsessed with the end-of-the-world (E.O.W.) scenarios involving planets. I call him "Pete the lunatic". I've told him MANY times he is a lunatic. He's "predicted" the EOW many times for the past 10 years! He even lobbies Congress in Washington, DC. (He's retired and gets a VA and Social Security checks.) I tried to alert him to the REAL potential for castrophe when we reach Peak Oil and demand outstrips supply. He was a very succesful, energetic chemical engineer for a mining company but completly "lost it" (and all his assets too) when his stupid wife committed adultry. Pete is steeped in Villiskofsky (spelling), Ignacious Donnally (a former US Senator!) and literal intrepetation of ancient scriptures about the "sun standing still" and Mayan mythology. Believe it or not, he is currently holed up in the desert with about a ton of dried food and plans to find a cave to survive the catastrophe. Thanks for the links to "badastronomy". |
