Best $100 I spent in this hobby was probably my first pair of
binoculars, a Planisphere and Peterson's Field Guide, long before I
bought a scope or anything else.

Tuthill Isostatic Mount for my C8. I love the leg room. Yeah, yeah,
I know they retail for around $350...I found mine on Astromart for
$25!

Rolando,

The Baader material is probably the best buy out there! I
realize that a Telrad is a vital/critical piece of equipment and I
cannot do without it but just thinking about all of the wonderful views
of the sun using the baader material makes my spine shiver with joy.

Anthony.

And why?

Paying $100 to become a sustaining member of the Mount Wilson
Observatory Association (MWOA)

It gives me four nights on the 60 inch telescope and invitations to some
of the most interesting astronomy lectures around.
It gives me access to the observatory, which is steeped in history and lore.

Prescription eyeglasses. I got my first pair a year ago. I can see
about 1.5 magnitude dimmer stars than without, and the stars I see are
now pinpoints, not flares.

I didn't spend it, but it was probably the $100 my parents spent when $100
would still buy a respectable Tasco scope (4.5" reflector on a GEM). And
yes, the Tascos of that day were not the junk they are today. They weren't
Zambuto mirror scopes, but it kept me happy on many a night!

As for the best $100 I spent, I went back and forth but finally settled on
the first several years of S&T subscription to guide me in using that scope.
