Could be it will loosen up with use. But I would ask Coronado about it
(e.g., Bill Dean at the PST Yahoo Group).

It did ease up with a little use, but there is still some start-up play. I did
talk to Coronado about it...they said it's normal. The good news...I get it
tuned and then leave it the heck alone.

I look forward to starting my sketching again.

When I turn it one way, there is a little play, then when I turn it the other
there is also a little play. I will have to learn to adjust it in one smooth
continuous motion.

Consulted a couple of other PST owners...it is supposed to be that way. My
bad! Now all I need is sun!

Ah .. that is called backlash. I've not noticed any but I will look
when I set my PST up tomorrow.

Had great fun with it Tue and Wed up in the Santa Rosa area showing
friends things they had never seen -- e.g., the "fountain" prominances
of yesterday.

I find that I change it a fair bit: One setting favors proms, another
surface detail around sunspots and such.

Yes -- my guess is that it is normal. I interpretted your first msg as
being hard to turn in some parts of the travel but not in others.

BTW -- thanks for your great review in the "stacking" msg: Very
informative. But now do I want to spend $1000 or so to do that" :-)

WARNING: If you're not ready to do it, don't look through a stacked one.

I agree... humidity seems to make a difference also. But I have found
that I end up "tuning" within a fairly narrow range.

Oh, those prominences were magnificent. Here's the other thing about the
doublestacked PST...filaments on the edge that turn into prominences show in
absolute three-dimensional clarity. Large filaments appear dark brown and
small filaments show up easily. Plage is in such stark contrast that plage
that is barely visible in the SM40 is plainly obvious in the PST+SM40. I am
really quite impressed by the views this thing gives. I will have to buy some
new colored pencils today to take advantage of the color variations in my
sketch. Before, the details were subtle. Now, they hit me over the head with
a brick. I don't think my Tak FS-60C is going to see much use from now on, but
I will not be selling it.

My observation, too -- but leaving it at one setting does not quite do
it for me.

I believe I've found some change with heat, too -- after leaving the
scope in the sun for an hour or so and after the sun has moved to one
side, seems I need to tweak it a bit.
