Thaks for the info. As I read more about it, seems it works well with higher
f/ ratio telescopes, down to f/6. It gets very mushi at the edge at f/4.5. This is where the Naglers shine, in large DOBs. Julius "Dennis Woos" wrote in message ... "Szaki" wrote in message news:KZ_Mb.48511$xy6.117505@attbi_s02... So, you mean the edge is not as sharp as the UO's? Maybe, the quality not as consistant than other, more expensie brands, that's why it's cheap. Julius That isn't what I mean. Mine is as sharp and bright as the Kong up to the point where the fov exceeds the fov of the Konig, and then it gets pretty bad. Also, I have looked through a couple of them, and I have no reason to believe that they are not of consistent quality. There is a long story about why it is so cheap - do a google search, and look at the 1rpd website. Dennis |

Julius ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ You are learning. Not all eyepieces work well in all scopes. Naglers are designed to perform in fast scopes. Also you need to know that just because the apparnet field of view is real wide does not necessarily make it a great eyepiece. Filed of view is but only one parameter of many. It does no good to have 80 plus degree field of view if that the outer half of the field of view the stars look like color blobs or suffer severe astigmatism. From what I have read about the eyepiece, it is an Erfle design, not sure what configuration (1-2-2 or 2-1-2), and I really question how well is performs to 80 degrees. To 70 degrees is about the limit where Erfles should be limited to. The only way to get wider field is to sacrifice some other criteria such as eye relief or distortion. A 41 mm fieldstop on a 30 mm focal length eyepiece to me seems a bit wide. I would expect something more along 35mm filed stop. Besides in scopes faster than F5 the performance degrades more. F6 an slower are better for this design. james "Dennis Woos" wrote in message ... "Szaki" wrote in message news:KZ_Mb.48511$xy6.117505@attbi_s02... So, you mean the edge is not as sharp as the UO's? ![]() "Szaki" wrote in message news:yy_Mb.48266$xy6.116194@attbi_s02... Any one try this 2" 30mm eyepiece, selling on ebay, for $95? It has 80 deg field. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tegory=29 954 Item number: 2979229461 Any good, seems very cheap? Julius one can buy the same eyepiece from Astrobuffet for $75 in its cheapest incarnation (I believe no bolt case and maybe slight blems ) . Or a very similar one (but not identical) brand new from Apogee , the Widescan 32mm , 2" , 70deg FOV for something like $69 . Best Regards, Matt Tudor |
