Perhaps you nearly exhausted the associated muscles over time
by some unknown activity or other.

Dunno. I did grow up, an still live, in the desert. But i seem to be =
able to see and function quite well in the dark as well as see quite dim =
objects in telescopes. Perhaps my retinas are more sensitive.=20

Cool!! I'm beginning to wonder how accurate is the statement that 5mm is
typical for the over 40 crowd. Maybe we are doing this all wrong.

Mine are less than 4mm. ;-( But my active imagination makes up for it!

Are your eyes brown? I discuss astronomy with my ophthalmologist, and he
once told me that my brown eyes, all else being equal, won't open quite as
far as another person with blue eyes...

Of course, I've had others tell me that my eye color was a visual
indicator of how deep I was letting the crap get...

Jan,

My Eye doctor made a similar comment to me two weeks ago. He did say
that people with light colored eyes, especially blue eyes, in general
have pupils that dialate wider.

edz, 7mm green eyes at age 51.

I just sat in the bathroom, in the dark, but only for two or
three minutes before I stood up to the mirror with red light and
6-inch rule with metric graduations in hand...

My iris is closer to 14mm in diameter.

My pupils, in both eyes, easily reached 7mm, and perhaps even
approaching 8mm.

I don't think that the statement can be as blanketing as we've been
led to believe.

This is not surprising to me, given the stark, almost iris-eclipsing

considerably.)

I forgot about that !

Now I need to make room in the eyepiece case for a bong !
