That's the same thing I think.
That space-based ABM concept and the general militarization of space
were ideas that were near and dear to the hearts of the neocons in the
Bush White House, and I suspect that the new boosters were somehow
related to that.

I'm still suspicious of that Ares name; it's very odd for a civilian
spacecraft, unless the reference is to Mars, the Roman god of war.

Let's see....its butt ugly and emits foul-smelling gasses. It was
named by a dyslexic Brit.

....Or 99/4A or VIC-20, for that matter?

As long as we're in that era:

How about QDOS - quick and dirty orbiting spacecraft?

The glass is neither half-empty nor half-full. The glass has a leak.
The real question is "Can it be patched?"
these opinions are mine, all mine; HP might not want them anyway...
feel free to post, OR email to rick.jones2 in hp.com but NOT BOTH...

....Two points about this one:

1) Notice how NASA didn't give the Trekkies a chance to stuff the
ballot box on naming it the Enterprise, nor did they give some
retarded 6th grader the "honor" of giving it a name that nobody liked,
such as Sojourner, Spirit or Opportunity?

2) This has to be the first NASA Bitch story I've read in a while that
wasn't Keith Cowing ranting, babbling and acting all butthurt over
having been fired for being a dip****.

....A little update: Although NASA did this so quick and quiet that the
Trekkies didn't have a say in the naming, the patch *does* have a Trek
connection. Former .history regular and graphic designer for several
of the post-TOS series, Mike Okuda, was the designer for the patch.
It's not a shabby design at all, but I have to admit Mike could have
put a bit more *detail* into it. Sometimes simple lines aren't the
best.
