Following a tip-off from THE ASTRONOMER Electronic Circular No 2387 I
observed Comet 17/P Holmes at magnitude 4.1 at 2007-10-24
11:32:58.144UT from New Mexico (remote scope).

Now being reported at magnitude 2.5!!

"HOT NEWS: Astronomers in Japan, Persia and Europe report that Comet
17P/Holmes is undergoing a spectacular eruption. The 17th magnitude
comet has brightened by a factor of five hundred thousand or more during
the past 24 hours becoming a naked-eye object in the evening sky. Look
for a yellow 2.5th magnitude fuzzball in the constellation Perseus after
sunset."

Not bad for a comet discovered in 1892 with an orbital period of 6.9 years!!
