The Pope may have believed he saw what he claimed, but he *could not*. The
items in question were simply too small. As to any landing flare, it would
have been such a small increase in brightness (if any) compared to the
brightness of the moon that it couldn't have been seen, by eye or even
machine. He might have seen what he wanted to see because he believed it,
but there were not enough actual photons travelling from the moon to his eye
for his eye to detect them.

He wasn't lying, he was just wrong.

First time I saw that critter, I'd never heard of a chupacabra. I
thought a deer with fangs was one very odd creature indeed, ranking
right up there with the dread mythical Jackalope in unlikelyness.
It looks like something a taxidermist would invent out of some leftover
parts.

Only in the Confederacy. The Emancipation Proclamation didn't cover
slaves held in Union states.
Slavery was finally banned by a constitutional amendment, not by Lincoln.
