Macspert-
It is much easier to pass up the "I just got my new scope" posts than to get worked up over them, unless if you don't really let these posts get to you, and might be making a point on the amount of or ?? of these posts. It is a welcome thing in this world for someone to be excited about something that can give enjoyment in an obviously harmless way (except perhaps to the pocketbook). Something the world needs more of-LESS HARM. Ignore these and go enjoy your scope. I agree, Michael Nugent. I'm no rocket scientist, and might have a long way to go before I can identify more than a few Messiers. It is another hobby, something for my enjoyment, not my job. Best regards, Macspert- Kerry in s.e. Louisiana "Michael J. Nugent" wrote in message ... To be honest - I cannot really star-hop that well - and um... big deal - it's not my job, it's a hobby... can you understand that...A HOBBY...something to ENJOY...and if I want to spend a bit of my hard earned cash on expensive equipment, then so be it. And if I ever make the mistake and ask anyone in this group for advice, please just ignore it. You see, in my life knowing the sky is about as important as knowing ancient Chinese dialect - I guess it's interesting but how does that really help me? In fact, I have learned more of the sky using my GOTO (9 1/4 Celestron Advanced) than ever before. With me it's always been the view, not the getting there part. In fact, I am going to purposely forget where the moon is so I can use my scope to find it - and then I can really enjoy the view:-) Mike Who will soon buy the Celestron CGE 11 (as soon as my wife says it's ok:-) |

You know who cares, who really gives a damn that some over paid yuppy creep just received his new 3" APO on an alt aaz mount of a 14" SCT and then asks whats good to look at with the scope. Well, apparently, you do. Nothing new under the sun, really--this debate is as at least as old as the newsgroup. Fact of the matter is, GOTO has been with us for quite a few years, and it has not meant the ruination of the hobby. The scopes being made today are no worse, by and large, than they were a dozen years ago; if anything, they're a bit better. Those today are no more expensive, by and large, than they were a dozen years ago; if anything, they're quite a bit cheaper. People are excited about getting new scopes, nothing bad about that at all. Better than getting excited about The Bachelorette.
