Chas,
I have no personal knowledge of the scope you are set on buying and
could
not recognize it but there was a large unitron on a ~5 ft pier on display at
a
telescope wholesaler in CT. It had huge setting circle rings on a GEM mount.
The dealers name is Pauli. I think he still advertizes in S&T. I think the
scope came out of a school.

I think what you saw was a 6" Unitron!
A 6" is way to big at 880lbs, and the cost woul be around $20,000...

Seriously, yes, a part of me still wants a 3 or 4 inch Unitron, but not enough
to pay what people seem to want for them.

Hi Rod! Back in 1986 i bought a Mint 4" Photo EQ Unitron, for $500!
It had sat in it's boxs since 1960, not one mark on the scope, what a steal...

This happened a lot back then. A friend and I picked up 4" otas for
$300/ea and I saw a guy get one at Stellafane for even less. Too bad
he dropped it right after he bought it and chipped the objective!
Ours performed very well on Jupiter.

Tom Spirock just informed me of the following: To all who plan on
attending Stellafane for Pre-Con setup.

All workers must be at Stellafane at or before July 30th, Wednesday
12:00 noon - no exceptions.

That predate to the convention date has been that for a long time now.
Better to get there the weekend before so you can help with the longterm
work that also needs to be done. The Wed. time is just enough to get the
annual work done.
