So..... am I thinking of getting smaller scopes cuz I'm nearing 60? Well,
no.... actually I keep thinking of trading up to a 25 or 30 inch Dob and
replacing the 10-in RC with one of those new Meade 14" RCX's.

It is good to see older observers like you still going for the gusto.
Sadly, not all of us are blessed with nearly indistructable bodies,
though much of that is our own fault (bad food, poor exercise,
sedentary work, etc.)

Maybe I'll put off my small scope years for another decade or two.

Larry,

If you are looking for a moderately sized light-weight scope you might
consider the UTI by Infinity Scopes. They are pretty expensive, but they
look really compact for the size of the optics. I've only seen David Levy's
UTI 6-inch, and it is tiny for the size scope. Again, they cost a lot, but
then they have top notch optics and materials.

If I win the lottery, it's a 28" from a builder in nearby Grass
Valley...

Thanks for the recommendation. Being a student of telescope making,
I still have the unfulfilled dream of building the ultimate amateur's
lunar/planetary scope - a 12" f/8! ;-)

Cheers,
Larry G.

I'm coming up on 47, but the morning after a late night astronomy
session in 20 degree temps (F) with a 10MPH wind, it feels like 77 for
the first few hours.

And, the size of the scope has little to do with it. ;-)

I got up today and almost couldn't get out of bed, even now, after some 8
asprin, my hips are still sore and stiff, and it's because of the cold and
I'm already feeling the effects of that cold blast that's heading down now,
stepped outside and it was like walking into a breeze from the North Pole.
