Default Strange onject in sky in Sydney Australia today

I saw a strange object in the western sky earlier today (Sydney Australia),
very low on the horizon at about 5pm local time. It looked like very short
orange-reddish con trail (twin trails) that ended in a ball that looked like
an explosion (but I don't think it was). It changed slowly over the course
of 10- 15 mins that I saw it, but didn't seem move in relation to the sky
sphere (ie it was stationary in the sky but was setting at about the same
pace as the moon would set, which doesn't seem to suggest it was an
atmospheric object). I don't think it was a comet or otherwise I think I
would have heard/read about it! Did anyone else see it?

Darrell
