SN 2007gr in NGC 1058 (Perseus) Options

Thanks for the link. I imaged the supernova myself a couple of nights
ago, and was impressed by its intensity relative to the host galaxy.
However, there appears to be another start very close by (not clearly
separated in my images) and I wonder, are the magnitudes you cite the
combined light for the two stars, or just the SN?

Yes it would be the combined value - this is why the shape of the
lightcurve and the changes in magnitude rather than the absolute
quoted magnitude values that matter most.

Incidently one of the comparison stars I was using seems to be
variable so I have re-calibrated all my images.
