1965 scientist-astronaut recruitment brochure quotation
I'm looking for the wording on NASA's recruitment brochure on the 1965 (first-ever) scientist-astronaut cadre, specifically the language of seeking 'perspicacity' and its definition as a trait that leads one to keep one's eyes open and notice unusual phenomena -- or something like that. Can anyone help? And I'm seeking examples where space travelers later exhibited exactly this trait -- spotting something weird that wasn't part of pre-flight programs, that turned out to have scientific value -- such as Buzz Aldrin's 'light flashes' on the way to the Moon, or Georgiy Grechko's unauthorized sleep-period sketches of noctilucent clouds... Thanks! Jim O www.jamesoberg.com |

Thanks, Rusty -- I 'THINK' the 1965 recruitment blurb had the same wording,

Armstrong punching out of the LEM sim. Armstrong aware that landing was
"a little long." Armstrong's landing on low fuel but within minimums. The ground controller figuring out the 1802 alarm. Apollo (15?) figuring out workaround after the metal braid shorted the engine arm switch. Apollo 12 going to manual control after the lightning strike. Apollo 13 extending the burn after Saturn 5 engine shutdown. Gemini crew for not hitting the abort switch escape rocket when the 1st stage shut off *after* the clock started running. Judgement is a rare commodity. I can make judgements that seemed to be sound but had a defective outcome. Judgement that results in success is perspicacity. --- per·spi·cac·i·ty /?p?rsp?'kęs?ti/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[pur-spi-kas-i-tee] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation -noun 1. keenness of mental perception and understanding; discernment; penetration. 2.
