Summary of the "Galactic Drifter SETI" search strategy:
This strategy is not intended to replace others currently under consideration and in practice, but does offer an attractive economy of effort to the Earth-side of the search, given its tight constraints in look direction and time. This strategy assumes the existence of automated stations in counter-revolving galactic orbits. Such orbits are useful to survey, monitor and revisit in situ large numbers of galactic targets, including potential sites of intelligent life. Communication between drifters and other sites in the presumed network can be greatly enhanced by exploitation of microlensing and gravitational focusing effects. Drifters may participate in signaling experiments with sites suspected of harboring communicative intelligence, using a mutually guessable strategy to set the timing and source direction of query signals. The Earth-side of the proposed mutually-guessable contact strategy requires observations in the area of galactic latitude 0 degrees and galactic longitude 90 degrees (approximately Right Ascension = 21 hours 12 minutes, Declination = 48 degrees 20 minutes) around the time (plus or minus a few months) of Jupiter and Saturn's closest approach as seen from the Sun. The next such event occurs approximately on 3 November 2020, and at roughly 19.9 year intervals following.
