Default Good Thing I'm here!

I was at the RSCD meeting tonight, been at lest 3 months since I went.
Tonight I found out that there is almost 3,000 home lots that have the ok or
are in the first stage of being graded around the west side of Rosamond.
Plus they belive that there will be at lest 600 more per year in the way of
building permits given out. So it was good that I was able to get them to
set the types of street lights, and they even set the type of poles and how
far apart they will be. No longer a hogpoge of types of lights. At lest I
was able to get them to do that.

Good for you -- HOWEVER -- you need to watch the process very carefully.
Developers have a way of sneaking back to the local planning commission or
local city/county council/commission and amending plans.

After everything has been approved by the planning commission and by the
city/county council/commission, the developer slips back to the planning
commission staff and submits a change to the final site plan -- with "one or
two minor modifications" that "don't affect anything important." It's at
this point that a lot of mischief occurs.

I asked the RSCD just about that very thing, as it's the RSCD who pays for
the lights once power is on to them, and the answer was that if it doesn't
meet the now Offical Code that they have, they will not have the power
turned on, that they do go out an inspect everything, as they are also the
ones in charge of the water/waste connections.

Another little tib-bit came up during the meeting. Homes in
Palmdale/Lancaster are going for $400,000+ while Rosamond is going for
$225,000 to $250,000. Found out onbase housing on Edwards is being scaled
back so more base people are looking to Rosamond to get a home in.

Are the street lights the Dark Sky Initiative friendly LED type?

The LED ones have not been fully approved for massive useage, I've checked
the company web sites some months back and even they said not for major
develmonts as of yet. But the are in the code now for the full cutoff new
style crobahead lights, like what cal-trans uses on the freeways now. Plus
the state a fied hight of the pole and even what kind of pole they can use.
Before I started giving them the IDA data, anyone could put up any kind of
lights in the area of new homes. Because of my supplying them with data and
such, they now have an offical street lighting code which is now law.

At lest it's a little step in the right way.

Hey that's more than "a little step"! Your actions will have a major
impact on keeping light pollution down. Great going!
