It leaves me out in the cold! I've tried to get a USB DVD player/recorder on
ebay but even the ones that have looked like I might win, in the last few
seconds the price jumps out past me, plus this machine is only a 750mhz one.

Makes me wonder how long it'll be before something like that will need a
terrabity drive to be installed?

Hardly seems worthwhile to go to eBay for that. A good DVD reader (all
you need for big software installs) goes new for under $20, and a DVD
writer for under $40. That is straight ATAPI- a swap for your current CD
drive. Better than USB.

Probably not long at all!

Since installing the USB 2.0 pci card, I find that the CD burner that's
connected to it is faster than the one in the machine, I use the two to copy
my back up CD's, and with the extra ports I have my scanner pluged in and
just wanted to pick up one of those USB DVD burners so I could burn my World
of Dahiles Slideshow on DVD and do the same for the Astro slideshow I'm
working on. The nearest store of any kind to me is 3/4th of a gas tank ( one
way ) away from me, and at near to $3.00 a gal, it's cheaper on ebay, I
might also lookat overstock this month too, hope to get one before I start
the buying of this trailer, as after I start that, it'll be a long 15 months
before getting anything else.

I agree with CP on purchasing a new DVD Player/Burner. As far as the USB 2.0
being faster, my guess is that Play and Write speed is greater than the
internal that you have. Try CompUSA, OfficeDepot, Office Max, etc for a
player (they all have a mail order component). Of course there are also many
more places that are web only that may be cheaper yet www.pricewatch.com
