Default Help with Celestron NexStar 8i ?

My friend's NexStar doesn't appear to be working right. We actually read
the manual and went thru the alignment procedure, starting
horzontal/North/leveled, entered proper dates, time (in Central daylight
time which it appears to understand), lat/long and then told it to find
Mars. It misses it by at least 10 degrees. Any suggestions on the likely
problem here? I suspect it isn't the scope design -- it's probably
cockpit error but where? Any help appreciated.

Please reply here, that email return is no good.

You'll get more help down on the newsgroup S.A.A.

Sir, thank you for responding. I just spent about 10 minutes trying to
find what newsgroup may be S.A.A. I never found one with those initials
(guessed it would be sci.astronomy...... but nothing came up). Could you
please give me more on that? Thanks.

If I'm a kooker, I guess they don't know about it. Thanks to the more
secure person that helped me with the ID.
