Default Rosamond Report 2.0

Cold Night in Rosamond

To pick up where I left off on Thursday, I got the carb changed but still
had to take the 8 mile round trip awalking to get some parts I needed.
It was not until friday afternoon I got the car running, I hope I don't
have to do anything like this soon again, and to top it off, when I did
get it going and headed towards the gas station, the gas dropped down
below 1/4 tank and that put me awalking to get a can of gas.

After sinking some $17.00 into the gas tank and getting home, I started
getting ready for taking the scope up. I was set up by 7pm. Durning the
next two hours I kept the scope aimed at the moon and giving views to the
few who would brave the cold blowing wind to take a look see. All total
about 8 people stopped.

I'll be getting my jackets out this week and airing them out and setting
up for winter, of the years I've lived here, this is the earlyest that
I've seen cool temps set in the high desert.

A prius??? What in the world is that? What kind of Beast?

Every one of these " Little " high milage rollerskates I've seen
around couldn't even carrymold Babylon 8's Rockerbox much less
the OTA itself.

Now if I could sell this thing for % grand, then I could go buy the
71 caddy hurst that's for sale up the road, that's a 472 engine and
I know those inside out.

Way back in the 1970's there was a guy down in Fla. who took a FORD Station
Wagon, removed the 425 engine and got one of those turbines they use to
start up jet airliners engines, not realy a turnbine but a BIG elec. motor,
high tourq type. He put about 6 12 vot batterys around it and put a 2.5hp
lawnmore engine that could drive only a geneator for the batterys. He used
the stock tranny, on the test run he could do 75mph with it and he crossed
the whole USA cost to cost and used one 5gal tank of gas for the small
engine to chearge the batterys while driving at night.

Now THAT was the best hybred car I've ever seen. BTW, my Babylon 8 OTA is
about as long as that car you showed. And $22,000??? I don't think that kind
of money will drop into my lap anyday soon. Heck, that's more than I get in
a whole year on my VA/SDI.

98k miles, v8, and almost no rust. My friend just wants to get rid of it
to make room in the garage. alas, you are too far.

The vehicle you mention must be running on perpetual motion!

Energy in = energy out (minus any conversion losses)

Using a small motor to provide electricity storage is an energy
conversion loser.

Using the batteries to drive an electric motor is another energy
conversion loser.

Nice try. But it just can't be done in our time or in our dimension.

Except by every Prius and its ilk. Or maybe you'll accept as an example
every diesel locomotive in America?

Car needs about 10hp average but has 200hp engine wasting gas in
parasitic losses waiting for those occasional high draw moments. Small
gas engine, electric storage and drive engine allows smoothing over the
demand cycle; even with losses the car might need only a 20hp gas engine.

What I've not figured out is why they don't offer a hybrid with a
clamp-on rear mounted gas engine "pod" that you don't even use for short
trips on the electric storage alone? Just back up to it in the garage,
dock and throw a few clamps when you want to go across state to Aunt
Tilly's.

Maybe you misunderstood, here it is again:

1st, removed gas run engine, replace with batterys and the elect. starter
motor used on the ground to start turning jet airline engines. It's been 30
years since the artical in PM/PS ( one of them ), I can't remember what he
used to keep a charge on the batterys for local driving, it could have been
a normal alternater, But for driving at night and for driving long times (
like out west ) he had 2nd, a 2.5 horse power gas run lawn mower engine that
he could fire up and it ran a genarator that recharged the batterys for
night, and/or long haul driving.

And maybe you MISSED the part where HE DROVE FROM THE EAST COST OF FLA. TO
LOS ANGELES AND RETURNED, USING THE LAWN MOWER ENGINE JUST WHEN NEEDED AND
HE DIDN'T USE MORE THAN A 5 GAL CAN'S WORTH OF GAS.

No If's, And's, or But's about it and it would do freeway speed. The car had
state of Fla. tags. This was a type of hybred engine car and it worked. It
cost the guy about $10,000 to build it, but hay, it would pay for itself
even in gas at the prices they had then, this was BEFORE the 74 gas lines.

I look at the hybred engines and with all the stuff they have under the hood
I'd not want to have to try and repair anything. As that guy was a retired
aircraft engine repair man, he's most likly long gone, but I would think the
way of his set up could be done by someone.

People said the same for cold fusion, which is now a reality. At
the moment, it takes more energy in than it gives out, but eventually
it could be used for energy production, just as nuclear fission never
worked until neutron bombardment was discovered.
