Hello everybody
This message is mainly addressed to those of you who speak spanish, and it is just to announce the release in Spain of a new book on space history and accidents, in spanish. (If you are an editor and could be interested in a translation for the english-speaking market, please contact myself in ) The title is "Houston, tenemos un problema. La Historia de la Exploraci=F3n Espacial a trav=E9s de sus Accidentes" (Houston, we have a problem. The History of Space Exploration through its accidents). You can find details, such are a presentation, the index, a brief extract, price and other data, in my web site, http://es.geocities.com/fjcasadop (also in spanish). "One more book on space accidents", you may think. Well, yes, although I think it is a different one. First, not only accidents in manned space flight are presented, but all of them that have involved danger for human lifes, astronauts or ground teams (rocket explosions, for example). Second, although written in a plain language and trying to maintain a tense atmosphere (reconstruction of accidents, transcriptions of conversations, interviews with some people involved) it pays attention also to the technical side, explaining the causes and consequences of those accidents and incidents. Third, it is a book fully updated, including the last accidents such are Columbia and VLS-1 in Brazil. Fourth, it takes advantage of the more data available year after year about the history of the space program in former USSR. Fifth, the book is not just a list of accidents, but an account of the history of space exploration, using accidents as important links (or nodes) in that account. In short, a book that, from my point of view (ok, maybe a not very objective one, coming from the author) represents an interesting option both for those who want to know details about space accidents, and for those who want to read a comprehensive account of the history of space exploration, not just that of the USA and USSR/Russia. (Sorry if someone thinks of this message as spam. I only try to make know the existence of the book for spanish-speaking space enthusiasts, since the promotion of these works in the spanish market is quite scarce). Regards, Javier Casado |
