Default Meade's optional QC assurance test

I didn't know they offered this. I came across it while
looking at info for the new ETXs.

We are also including a FREE PAT (Product Assurance Test), normally
priced at $69.00. This comprehensive telescope check is performed by
our own factory-trained telescope technician. You will receive a
report on your telescope, and enjoy the knowledge that it left our
warehouse in good working condition. Our exclusive PAT service is very
popular with our customers and we highly recommend it, but should you
chose to forego this offer, just check the proper option below.

Hi Rich:

Are you sure this is a service of _Meade's_ and not from a dealer?

Peace,

I guess I'm not understanding. Does this mean that unless an
additional $69.00 is kicked in, the purchaser can't enjoy the
knowledge that the merchandise left the retailer's warehouse in good
working condition? One might think that assurance would be part of
the normal sales transaction, and not a feature available at
additional cost . . . just a thought.

I think that very often scopes are drop shipped from the manufacturer...

That "drop ship" is the standard 4.5 foot drop BTW, from the UPS
truckbed to to your driveway.

But in general standard procedure is that the scope is left boxed. I am sure
you could open it when you picked it up and look it over but it wouldn't
receive the full check out.
