Default martian soil

This soil reminds me of what some type of moist or damp beach sand looks
like.
The granularity looks to be the same even though it is dry.

Just an opinion, without solid basis:
Some of the patterns on the Martian surface, as well as how the soil seems to
act, makes me think of statically-charged particles.
Perhaps the Spirit and other craft will give us better insight into what seems
like patterns made by flowing water and moisture in the sands.....
Clear, Dark, Steady Skies!
(And considerate neighbors!!!)
