How old is sci.astro.amateur?

I notice that google groups archives messages back to 9/15/1994.
Anyone know if the newsgroup existed before then?
Are posts archived elsewhere before 1994 (if they exist)?

1994 sounds right. This group was split off from sci.astro back then to
get away from the endless arguments about various lunatic pet
astrophysical theories. This move made room for the endless arguments
about GOTO, refractors, etc. ;-)

Yes...my memory is getting a little hazy, but 1994 or perhaps late 93. I never
saw it before then, anyway, my "s.a.a." before that was Fidonet Astronomy!

I kinda like the broad mix in here. Even just a touch of the
"sci.astro" type stuff adds to the flavor. Amateur astronomy is a very
broad subject, but somehow, this group seems to stay pretty much on
track. If there would be one new group, perhaps it could be
S.A.A.T.C.N.B. (Sci.Astro.Amateur.Trolls.Cranks.and Nutballs.)
