SKY & TELESCOPE -- Is it a good magazine?

Hi,

I'm a total newbie to astronomy and was wondering: is Sky & Telescope
a good magazine? It cost $43 a year. Is it worth it?

Stephen,

The short answer is yes. However the question is wrong, you
should ask, "Given my observing habits and equipment, does S&T
help me to better use and understand?" Nobody but you can tell.

So, instead of subscribing, why not buy an issue or two and see
if you like the magazine? Also try looking at skypub.com, they
have material typical of the magazine.

Also they been at it since 1948(???), they must be doing something
right.

I agree. I also suggest he look at "Astronomy", and compare
them with his needs in mind.

Plus, "Astronomy" is a Wisconsin product, so it must be
something good :-).

Yes, it is a good one. If you can find a local Astronomy Club, they often
offer discounted subscription rates to both Sky and Tel, and Astronomy
magazine as a benefit of membership. Clear skies to you.
