My ISP (AT&T) is dropping Usenet and I was wondering what options are
available without a fee. The note from AT&T indicated the alternatives would involve a fee. Bryan |

There are free alternatives, such as TeraNews. I've used them, and they work- more or less. In the end, I went with a pay service, Agent Premium News from forteinc.com. It sets me back a whopping $2.95 per month, and is very reliable. _________________________________________________ Chris L Peterson Cloudbait Observatory http://www.cloudbait.com |

The same thing happened to me a while back. After a period of silence (At least your ISP gave you advance notice!) I eventually decided to go with Google Groups. http://groups.google.com There's no fee. Sketcher, To sketch is to see. |

Eric: I just moved from AT&T to http://www.eternal-september.org/Reg...ewsAccount.php Text newsgroups only, no binaries, but free and pretty fast. I also endorse eternal-september.org. I switched because Verizon FIOS stopped carrying certain (legitimate) newsgroups that interest me, such as one for owners of a certain brand of automobile. e-s has been fast and reliable for me since I switched about a month ago. I also switched to eternal-september because ATT shut their usenet feed down; eternal-september is free and works well, and it's a real news server, so real news readers will work with it - hence you don't have to mess with clumsy web based interfaces like google's. |
