This is to stop you winding it too far out. The upper end is the same, to stop you winding it too far _in_. No crash. You have to undo the whole knob assembly to allow the tube to move completely in/out. The normal storage position for this focusser is as shown, since it keeps the focusser tube from being knocked. Even a 5 year old knows more, telescopes are used to look it stars up, not bugs in dirt. Idiots!
