Obsolete Space Shuttle

Why is the space shuttle, all of a sudden, after so many successful flights,
suddenly unfit for service ?

Is it obsolete, un-economical, or just plain neglected like many of our senior citizens ?
If so, why is NASA risking seven lives on it ?

I find it very hard to swallow that NASA can't see well past its own nose.
I'd expect that from Bush, but not from NASA.

Time for a new TAX hike, obviously, the poor in the USA, still have
too much money. So they are going to have to cough up another 2 or 3
trillion dollars, pay attention, thats just to start, after, we will
need more. Just in case Sadam hid his WMD in space.

The shuttle has been obsolete for a long time, and that has nothing to
do with the current President. If anything, his administration has
shown a willingness to spend a huge amount of time and money trying to
band aid the shuttle while finally giving the program a formal end date
in the future.

Now of course with foam still a big problem the Billion Dollar question
is whether another round of patching up is justified or if it is time to
finally acknowledge that the program is over.
