Default Putting that Mac vs PC thing back into its astronomical track

Hello,

Let's tackle a less loaded hehe and more astronomical topic.

What's the correlation between Mac and Apochromatic refractor ownership?
PC and Celestron 11? How many people do think their 6" apo outperforms 11"
SCTs? How many of them think $3000 of Mac outperform $1000 of PC hardware
and how does that correlate with fluorite zealots vs mirror fans?

I own both Mac and PCs and a small apo and a C11 - I'd rate myself
oecumenic. What about you?

I own about 70 computers (no, really), a mix of Macs, one PC running XP
(games), a couple running FreeBSD and the rest being c.1980 relics
(Apple ]['s, a couple of ICL One-Per-desks etc).

I also own a 10" Newt, a 5" acho and a 3" achro.

I guess you could call me 'undecided' :-)

Well, actually, that's also roughly my case, although I've never really
counted - I collect old stuff, and we've basically kept everything that was
used at the company.

Since you're a fellow collector/nutcase ;-) you deserve a link

I wouldn't touch any of that with the proverbial 10 foot pole! ;-)

Lets just say that Goto was a Godsend for Mac owners.

Even as a Mac devotee, I did chuckle at that. Actually, given all the
complications and technical glitches involved, I'd say that GoTos are a
perfect match for DOS users! :-)

I find the combination of a simple dob and a Telrad to be more akin to
the zen-like experience of the original Mac than any noisy, whirring,
power hungry, cable-laden, arcanely structured Go-To ever was...

Point and click = point and view.

(Go-To owners please take no offense. I'm one, too.)

Back to the Mac, PC astro thread...

Still haven't upgraded to an OS X astro program; haven't sprung for
Starry Night yet, and an OS X version of Voyager is promised soon...
I'm spending most of my software astro time using Planetarium on a
Palm-- and hence neither Mac or PC. That's one way of rising above the
Mac-PC fray!
