In a TV interview on BBC early this AM - Dr Martin Tomasko who is DISR
Principal Investigator mentioned that they would have had about 700 photos/images but that because Chain A had no data this meant that they only had 300 / 320 photos. I haven't been able to get much detail on what happened to chain A - and what the effect on the rest of the data is - I know that there are a couple of instruments only on A the TUSO and RUSO which are used in the Doppler Wind Experiment (DWE) - so this experiment is probably toast. But what other things are effected by this:- So if Chain A is bad - how does this effect the number of images sent? - If Chain A goes bad then Chain B should transmit same data 6 seconds later? I'm just wondering if we're going to miss important stuff because of this. Worst case scenario would be that panoramic/colour images could not be built because there will always be relevant image data not present (e.g. every other shot, or spectral shot missing). Better would be that all image data from certain time was present (e.g. image data from high altitude never made it - but all image data lower down did!) Anyone know more? Bill |
