It's really unbelievable that there are some 48,000 posts in SAA most of
which are pure garbage. Why can't any house cleaning be done? Luckily I can choose how many downloaded messages I get. |

Looking through the unfiltered messages in my newsreader, it appears that the vast majority are perfectly topical. I don't see much garbage at all, especially if you throw away the posts of just a handful of known trolls. _________________________________________________ Chris L Peterson Cloudbait Observatory http://www.cloudbait.com |

It's really unbelievable that there are some 48,000 posts in SAA most of which are pure garbage. That's your opinion. I read every one of them every day, and I cherish them all. Why can't any house cleaning be done? No cyberdusters? Luckily I can choose how many downloaded messages I get. Oh. Then what's the problem? Do these 48,000 posts all exist on floppies at your house, and are you spending 24/7 popping in floppies as requests come in? Davoud -- usenet *at* davidillig dawt com |

Sounds like you don't understand the UseNet newsgroups.
There is no central location where these messages are kept so you have no single point that you can "repair" the newsgroup. In addition, this is a nonmoderated group so there is not anybody that can delete improper posts. As to the 48K posts, that is all that your newsgroup server has at the moment for the last x number of days in it's memory. There are a lot more than that that have been posted to the group over the many years that it has been around. -- Bob May Losing weight is easy! If you ever want to lose weight, eat and drink less. Or just learn to use filter rules on your own newsreader. You can block senders who annoy you (unfortunately people will in some cases reply to these, and you then see the replies...), block files over a particular size (helps to prevent reception of very long 'threaded' conversations, or binaries that souldn't be on the group anyway), have general rules to block messages with some 'keywords' present or missing etc. etc.. With such rules carefully set up, over 90% of the 'dross', can be removed, allowing groups to be viewed in a different 'light'... :-) Best Wishes |

Are you sure you are not talking about the messages cached by your newsreader? For example, when on my newsreader the cache gets to about 20'000 messages I remove the expired messages and this leaves only around 10'000. - Alex |

It always says 48000 not dowloaded so it is my ISP server. |
