Default Meade LXD75, out yet?

Is it out yet, any one owns it? How good is it?
Any reviews?

Thanks, Julius!

Hi:

Yes. They are in the hands of users now. Initial reports are favorable. Much
steadier and without the gearing problems that afflicted the 55s. Keep in mind
that it'll be a few weeks before we have a full picture on these scopes, but
it sounds good initially.

Here's part of a review of the 10" I saw just today...

"The new larger finder is what is causing the scope
to be unbalanced. You can not balance it with the finder on the OTA
with only 30lbs of weight. Meade really let one slip there! WOW!
So far I like it my optics are pretty dirty though, and I don't care
for the tripod spreader as it does not stay against all three legs
of the tripod. A better spreader is in order first of all. No
noticable play in either axis and the visual dampening time is less
than the 10" 55. The paint on the OTA appears to be much better, as
it has a texture or orange peal look. Fit and finish are much
better than the 55 series."

They look nice but I'm reading about a variety of minor problems with
the first batch such as binding of the new bearings causing the mount to
"shake" when it hits a tight spot, dirty correctors, not balancing, etc.

Looks like they have some QC issues to work out, in the normal Meade
way... (sending out the scopes and waiting for the calls).

I'm sort of disapointed because I wanted one of these, but also relieved
that I bought something else instead.

Hi:

Yep. Saw that one, and I believe it's probabbly more indicative of what the
scopes are like than the person on the LXD75 list who is posting about
bearings, the spreader, balance with the finder, etc. Now the person in
question could _certainly_ have received a dog, no doubt about that. But from
reading the posts where he's related the problems he's having, I'm not sure
that it would be wise to put too much credance in what he's saying.

Yup. It's possible; these are imports, after all. I don't think the majority
of them have problems so far. My LXD75 SN-8 came out of the box with no
apparent issues at all. It's been raining, but all indoor tests and
inspections are encouraging.

Hi:

I would HOPE Meade has the sense not to let as many really bad ones get out the
door as they did in the LXD55 debacle. Time will tell...
