One word: Trilobites

Imagine the religious repercussions on Earth. It's so damn nutty to begin
with, I cant wait to see them integrate a universe probably teeming full of life.

I had a Jehova's Witness tell me once that life - without doubt - began in
the Garden of Eden. He told me if life were ever discovered anywhere off of
Earth, it would shake the very foundations of his faith.

He turned Jewish a few years later when he married a very attractive Jewish girl.

Nahhh; it'll be something like "we found signs of ancient water!.... again."

To change someones religious opinions you just have to find the right way to shake
their foundations :_

Then throw around a lot

martian ground soon ... sign of life yet spin.

There won't be religious repercussions at all. They will point out
that it is not clear whether the Mars life occured separate from
Earth, either Earth to Mars or Mars to Earth.

If the evidence strengthens to prove separate ancestory the time it
takes to get that proof will allow a gentle adjustment to that
evidence.

I think what you are looking for is something a bit more
shocking...say a signal from far, far away and a long time ago...or
maybe something dug up in the Gobi desert...

Not likely... they have predicted the end of the world a few times now, and
even though it didn't happen they are still around (much like Nancy).
