John Steinberg:
Although I've seen many of you on film, it occurred to me the other
night that you cannot say the same of me. Consequently I've decided to
correct that so you, the home viewer, can attach a picture to the
words...

No wonder your eyes are red -- the 'scope is aimed right at the sun! Or
at one of them, anyway; the varying specular reflections from your hat
and the 'scope tell me that there were two suns in the sky at Lake of
the Flaatus when this portrait was made.

"Redistribution Expressly Prohibited" is a humorous touch, but it won't
help you. I've already run this image through Photoshop and sold
one-time-use rights to _Popular Mechanics_ and _Men's Health_
magazines, as well as several of my own family members, under my own
name.

Some notes about the image:

It was taken by the almost famous Blink Sutter for the Clic Agency, and
captures me and one of my 'scopes, Nancy, during an early morning solar
session in upstate NY, early fall, '03. Beautiful day as you can see
from the sky. Not seen is the full aperture Baader solar film as I had
just been using same to catch some rays and add a little color to my
otherwise pasty complexion.

Nancy is an LX90, and her name is the result of my first serious
girlfriend, who was also named Nancy, and who also took a very long
time to reach thermal equilibrium.

As a general rule, I've always been quite camera shy, and although it
may appear that I'm charging the photographer in this image, I'm
actually backing away from him at that moment.

Blink only suffered a mild concussion and a dislocated shoulder after
this exchange and at least part of the motivation for posting this is a
court order, but I really am sorry, Blink, and I'm delighted to be able
to share this with the s.a.a crew.

Some Personal Notes:

I have since shaved the moustache and taken to using Visine Allergy
Formula. The ear wax issue is an inherited trait and I do apologize
for that and the less than flattering lighting. I'm told I may look a
little more portly in photos than I actually am in person and although
taller than your average Joe, the picture may tend to make me appear
somewhat taller than I actually am.

Anyway, I'll be posting the shot with some technical details
momentarily.

John,

You know, when I engage someone in conversation or email, I always form a
mental image of what that individual must look like based on many data
points. I must say, you are far better looking than I ever imagined!

HEY! I just thought of something...did you happen to attend NEAF last May?
I was there on Sunday and hung out mostly near the Denkmeier booth. I also
spent a lot of time by Uncle Al (of the Nagler variety).

Dave Jessie
