Occasionally I get a message to join some astro site. The most recent is
Astro Gab. I have no interest in them, or any others that are unsolicited. However, how do I get on their lists? I do not reveal my true e-mail address on NGs. This is not a big problem. It may happen once every two months. Just curious. |

Are you on any astro-related Yahoo groups or have registered on any astro-related websites? There are a multitude of ways for folk to get your email address from the above; It isn't only usenet that is harvested. -- Rob |

W. eWatson: Yes, many YGs, but none with the address that I use on a daily basis. I think the key phrase is "that I use on a daily basis." Lots of people have that e-mail address. People forward your e-mails and then they get forwarded again. A virus or other malware infection or the hacking of a site that has your e-mail address (such as this recent event http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/apr/04/epsilon-email-hack) can also help spread it around. The criminals who do these things sell e-mail lists, among other things.
