I just had a call from the guy who's selling that 71 ford pickup, he was calling
from work. He lives down in Newhall area and poor guy doesn't like drive in / on hot days. But he's going to see when he's got the time and will drive it up to me! to check out, and from what he says, it sounds like two lifters are gumed up, which the right stuff into the oil might free up but they are still workable. It's got current tags on it too. Price is $300 to me. It was his dad's truck and he bought his dad a brand new one, said he first put the ads out with a $1,200 price. No Wonder it's dropped in price. Plus he has to move it everyday or get a ticket for it staying in one place and not in the driveway. So if all the things go right, I'll have wheels again by sunday. Keep your toes crossed! -- "In this universe the night was falling, the shadows were lengthening towards an east that would not know another dawn. But elsewhere the stars were still young and the light of morning lingered: and along the path he once had followed, man would one day go again." Arthur C. Uhhhh... Not to rain on your parade, but...
It might not be because of his own discomfort that he does not want to drive it on a hot day. Perhaps I'm too suspicious, but do suggest you see if this 22 year old work-horse has an overheating problem! Good luck! Paul --- http://www.astro-nut.com --- "Starlord" wrote in message ... Ooops... you said 1971!?! Make that 32 years old. If you do not love to
putter around on vehicles, be wary of the potential for this to become a money pit. I've never had a car that didn't need worked on, that's why, while it's a set of
mis-matched tools, I've got a toolbox with all kinds of tools in it, picked up at yard sales, etc. The last car, that blasted caddy, I kept it running for two years before it gave up the ghost. -- "In this universe the night was falling, the shadows were lengthening towards an east that would not know another dawn. The good thing about a 31 year old pickup is that it is relatively easy to work on and that parts are quite inexpensive. There is not a lot to go wrong and what can go wrong is easily accessible for repair and easy to diagnose. Those were the days that mechanics dream of, a fan belt that turned the water pump and the alternator and nothing else, an engine compartment one can stand inside of, spark plugs that are easily reached. I think this truck could be a winner. jon |

I would think that old of a car/truck needs to have it's cooling system flushed,
that's a given point and is not hard to do, I've flushed more than one cars system. -- "In this universe the night was falling, the shadows were lengthening towards an east that would not know another dawn. Dennis,
You need something that will last a while....... But on the other hand, with today's automobile prices, if it runs for more than a couple of months.....you've got your moneys worth. And like Jon said....older vehicles are generally easier to work on. I've got a 91 Dodge Dakota that I don't want to part with, just because it's so easy to work on. -- Don Baker Go 18, 5 & 14....(also 8, 40, & 30) www.geocities.com/thebugbomber "Starlord" wrote in message ...
