Default Astronomy book recommendations?

I am looking to re-educate myself in astronomy. After a 10 year
hiatus (from college where I concentrated in advanced physics and
astronomy classes on the side), I feel a little lost again in the
advanced discussions.

Could anyone suggest a book progression to get me going. For example,
books beginning at the "educated" novice and progressing with each
step.

Maybe a general book (Cosmos?) stepping through to current books on
theoretical subjects.

I am not afraid of math, but not really looking for textbooks. Just
readable books that will start letting me get back into astronomy on a
"beginner grad student" level.

Thanks
