I have a small, 12x14ish deck out the back of the house. Is it rock solid.
You can jump up and down and it doesn't move, flex, feel like you will die, etc. I had the scope out yesterday, to check out the moon. My 3 year old walking caused enough vibration to knock the image around to the point of unviewable. I had no idea how much a little vibration (that I couldn't even feel) would cause. -- BenignVanilla Pond Site: www.darofamily.com/jeff/links/mypond |

Yup. I can observe from my deck if I use a chair and am alone, otherwise
its an exercise in futility. Ed "BenignVanilla" wrote in message ... I have a small, 12x14ish deck out the back of the house. Is it rock solid. You'll find that even mounted on solid ground, if young kids are
jumping around within 5-10 feet, and running around, you will see vibrations...scopes make good seismometers!! FWIW, Tom W. Same here. When observing from my deck I have to practically stop
breathing to keep the scope from shaking. Mike Simmons BenignVanilla wrote: I have a small, 12x14ish deck out the back of the house. Is it rock solid. I was reading in the bathroom when I ran across an item written by
Mike Simmons on Fri, 08 Aug 2003 15:21:38 -0700, which said: Same here. When observing from my deck I have to practically stop breathing to keep the scope from shaking. That's yet another reason I'm going back to a dob. I can't use an EQ mount while sitting, which inherently means more vibration on my deck. --------------- Beady's Corollary to Occam's Razor: "The likeliest explanation of any phenomenon is almost always the most boring." |
