Possible sign of an imminent supernova?

"the star had registered a significant drop in size, comparable to the
distance from where Venus orbits the Sun. Despite this fact, the
variations recorded in its brightness levels were not very significant"

15% shrinkage in 15 years, and accelerating.

I want to know what the acceleration rate is. I am also concerned
about possible EMP effects on Earth and on objects in orbit.

As of 500+ years ago, it already did its helium flashover.

Well, this list lists the 26 nearest stars to us, and Betelgeuse isn't
on that list.

The 26 Nearest Stars

According to Wikipedia, it's only 600 ly's away. So it's certainly a
candidate for the closest red supergiant.

Antares is also a red supergiant, and a similar distance away.
