Default Earth's Position in the Universe Question

I have several stupid, layman questions concerning outer space. Is there a
web site that answers such questions authoritatively but in layman's terms?
For example:

I read that astronomers can see to the edge of the known universe or when
the universe was only a few hundred million years old. Do the astronomers
look in all directions in relation to the earth? Where is earth in relation
to the rest of the universe? Are we in the middle, for instance?

There is no "middle" per se.

Imagine a series of dots on a balloon. One of them is the Milky Way.

Now, start blowing up the balloon. The dots move away from each other. But
every direction you look in, you see a similar density of dots. So you
think you're in the middle. Until you realize you could be on any of those
dots and see the same thing... leading you to the conclusion that there is
no center.
