Default Wolf-Rayet Stars

Are the electrons in the central core of a Wolf-Rayet star degenerate?
In other words, are the Wolf-Rayets slowly growing a white dwarf in
their center. One which ultimately collapses when its mass exceeds the
Chandrasekhar limit?
