A Mars mission will occur this century. For me the only bet will be: will it be before 2050 or after. Most likely bet: before. |

It's too dangerous, and nothing useful is achieved by flying it again other than to prolong the careers of some NASA managers, and to motivate a few astronauts. Grounding it now would save a huge amount of money that could be spent on building a better mark-2. It has passed its use-by date, and should be grounded - as Concorde should have been before they went to the expense of upgrading its fuel tanks. Sylvia. |

My bet: just like CONCORDE after the july 2000 accident, it will make a few
more flights and then retire. JYP "Sylvia Else" a écrit dans le message news: ess... Dr. O wrote: No. The Shuttle will fly again. Despite my previous posting, I think you're probably right. Of course it's going to fly. On the back of a 747 to Disneyland.
Mike McSwell (Actually, maybe they could just trailer it to Disneyworld.) |

any takers??? Let see Retire date is 2010, First flight will be no earilier than 2005, current estimates, that 20-25 flights to core complete, also the first flight or two in '05 are going to be test flights(so no extensive construction can be done), plus factor in the new flight rules(daylight launches) and last minute gliches that delay launches... My Bet is, either they will change the definition of 'Core Complete' or see a year or two extention on the retire date Just my $0.02 Space Cadet derwetzelsDASHmailATyahooDOTcom Moon Society - St. Louis Chapter http://www.moonsociety.org/chapters/stlouis/ The Moon Society is a non-profit educational and scientific foundation formed to further scientific study and development of the moon. |

My Bet is, either they will change the definition of 'Core Complete' or see a year or two extention on the retire date They've already begun on doing just that. NASA is currently hard at work to pursuade the Euro's and Japanese to tear up the contract they've signed and join the U.S. to the moon. If conditions are favorable I foresee no problems in that. I've predicted the Shuttle will be retired well before the 2010 deadline, probably 2007. |
