Burt Rutan was right; years ago in a AW&ST article he predicted the
future fighter was a thing about the size of a dragonfly that would be
released in vast numbers, and home in on anyone not carrying the proper
IFF gear...to either inject them with poison or hit them square in the
forehead with a small shaped-charge explosive.

I wish I'd been born 50 years earlier than I was. I'd be dead by now.

Cheer up! The other side will field robotic soldiers, and pretty soon
war will consist of two robotic armies blowing the living crap out of
each other with no humans getting hurt. :-)

That's because there won't be any humans left. Remember "Second
Variety"?

Or, wars will be fought with computer simulations, possibly even
Playstation and X-box type stuff. The casualties will simply report
to the destruction chambers...

I was thinking of Bunch's "Moderan" stories, but they're closer to the Borg.

I still like the concept where we stick the one American and one Chinese
guy on the island to fight it out. :-)
