I've been asked by some SAA members reinstate "The Pledge"
Some may remember from years gone bye "The Pledge" which helped remove Trolls from SAA. So sign up today and let's get back to what we're here for :-) Goto http://web.mac.com/gaslee/iWeb/Site/The%20Pledge.html and then Email me "The Pledge" along with your name and I'll add you to the list. Rich is not ALWAYS a troll. And lately, he's been a little more on -topic than he often has in the recent past. He's spent a lot of time in my killfile, but he's also a well-seasoned amateur astronomer, who has a LOT of experience he can share, when he's in the mood to do so. I always TRY to give Rich a little space, because I KNOW what he CAN do as a contributor here. But that has often been tempered by the negative side of his *other* posts... The problem often has been what he IS doing at any given moment. Right now, his pluses exceed his minuses. You've got to be kidding. That didn't remove any trolls from the
system. On the other hand, Del "Laserpointer" Johnson is gone. Maybe you've got something there. Gareth Slee wrote: I've been asked by some SAA members reinstate "The Pledge" Some may remember from years gone bye "The Pledge" which helped remove Trolls from SAA. |

If you were real astronomers you would have little time for group hugs
and pledges. The pledge of an observational astronomer is to correctly plot the positions of planets using the stellar background as a reference but not to include the stellar background when drawing conclusions - http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ima...loop_tezel.jpg The pledge of a real heliocentric astronomer is to actively present the actual motions of the forward moving Jupiter overtaking the slower forward moving Saturn - http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ima...loop_tezel.jpg To account for the other feature is to present the faster moving Earth overtaking both those outer planets. Then and only then can you ever dare to breathe the words 'astronomer and astronomy'. You can remain 2 dimensional quasi- geocentrists if you adhere to this putrid mutation of the Copernican insight - "For to the earth planetary motions appear sometimes direct, sometimes stationary, nay, and sometimes retrograde. But from the sun they are always seen direct," NEWTON So,pledge to your heart's content but you are no astronomers until that awful 17th century misjudgement/misconduct is corrected. |

Correction
The forward orbital motion of the Earth resolves the appearance and slower forward motion of Jupiter and the even slower forward moving Saturn - http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ima...2000_tezel.gif If none of you can recognise that then forget about pledges for otherwise you will remain Newtonian quasi-geocentrists locked within your 2 dimensional celestial sphere bubble. I take no satisfaction from all this, promoting the actual reasoning of Copernicus and Kepler was my business and whatever insults that rain down in this direction, nothing can take away the disappointment of watching the great astronomical insights and methods of Copernicus and Kepler brought down to the dismal condition it exists in today. I have promoted the Copernican insight and recognise that it truly blossoms using time lapse footage of actual planetary motion, a feature that Copernicus,Kepler and Galileo had to imagine intutively so there is no excuse for getting it wrong as Newton did.Kepler was well aware that Copernican heliocentricity was open to mutations such as the Tychonian view* but there were not enough competent astronomers around to grasp the Newtonian mutation. You see me as an enemy ,a troll or some other buzzword but I see only intellectual and intutive laziness. * "And though some disparate astronomical hypotheses may provide exactly the same results in astronomy, as Rothmann claimed in his letters to Lord Tycho of his own mutation of the Copernican system, nevertheless there is often a difference between the conclusions because of some physical consideration [causa alicujus considerationis physicae].... But practitioners are not always in the habit of taking account of that diversity in physical matters [in physicisvarietas], . . " KEPLER |

Coppy was saying
You've got to be kidding. That didn't remove any trolls from the system. It didn't REMOVE the trolls, but it shortened their threads considerably, and the signal to noise ratio got better. A few might just go away if ignored. Marty |

I don't know what planet you came from, but this group has more trolls on it today than ever before. Check out oriel's response on this thread. It has never been as bad. And the local yocals still respond to the trolls, over and over again. Did you see Davoud's troll bait on Windows vs. Mac? The people who have left are the ones who contributed the most. They all got tired and went to the private groups on Yahoo or CloudyNights. This was a much better place in the mid to late 90's. Oriel is right. The Pledge is just a group hug, a big circle jerk. |

So if everyone ignored oriel, Davoud and the rest when they troll? We lost a lot of good contributors. But if we reduce the s/n ratio we may not lose any more. We might even get some back. But if we keep up long responses to trolls... Clear Skies Chuck Taylor Do you observe the moon?
