Default Need some Odd DSLR advice....

Hey Nytecam!

I haven't seen you posting to the 'Coronado_PST' Yahoo group in a
while...are you OK?
I miss the information you always provided.

Your cyber friend and fellow PST user,

Virtually any of the top DSLR brands using an ASP sized detector should
suit but one that includes RAW ensures the best images can be extracted
without loss. Unless modified, by removed the IR block filter, all are
relatively poor recorders of H-alpha in nebulae etc. Most use the Sony
CCD eg Nikon, Minolta, Pentax whilst Olympus generally use Kodak
fullframe CCDs and Fuji their own special CCDs.

Canon use CMOS sensors and although initially considered inferior to
CCDs they now largely match or exceed them. The Canon CMOS is the most
astro-tested - see Chritian Buil's website.

BTW - the gross pixel count, IMHO, is largely irrelevant eg if you crop
[an who doesn't!] an 8Mp DSLR [say Canon 350D/Rebel XT] image by just
2mm around the perimeter the pixel count drops to 6Mp [=Canon Rebel]
and you could have saved a mint by going for a 6Mp DSLR initially -
food for though!
