Default Test of scope

Set up the new scope and opened it up for cool down. I have found that with
this F5 scope, I'm using my glass's more offen to view with and now at 8:30
and a temp in the high 30's I have come across something I've not seen since
I left Hawaii.

The Ep fogs up in the cold, humd air that has moved into the high desert.
Got to get some good gloves next month, that metal tube is really cold, as
it is I dug out my old work gloves to use the rest of this month.

Hmmm ... I wonder if the metal tube is creating a sort of local
environment which is cooling the EP and making it fog more easily?
Maybe a corresponding sonatube design would not have the same issue.

Is the secondary fogging up, too? The finder?

Default Test of scope

Had to shut down the test, not just because of cold, but because of the
total blanket of the sky with thick clouds that have blocked any viewing. So
the OTA is in the "Bag" inside the trialer and the rockerbox is under the
plastic sheeting that covers old Babylon 8. Outside temp right now is down
to 35F.

I figure that with gloves on there's no or little transfer of body heat
between me and the tube, but as I used to have happen in Hawaii the heat
from my head would fog up the ep. Now Hawaii is very humid, normaly out here
we are not, but with a low and cold front moving in, it got humid real fast,
this afternoon it went from a humid factor of 25% to over 70% tonight, thus
foged ep.

not sure of finder, but telrad fogged up too. But as a side note, my car
windows fogged over a bit until the inside temp and humidy came = to the
outside, then they cleared, but as soon as I got in, they fogged again.

As for the Sono Tube, yes, Babylon 8 has never fogged up, sono tube doesn't
transfer heat either way.

What I need to do is have a cold but DRY air night here, which we should get
sooner or later, that'll tell more.

Was just zeroing in on Saturn when the clouds moved in and shot the night.

Sounds like the problem is unusual weather. It is supposed to be cloudy
all day here in the L.A. basin and maybe with showers. Given your
report, I guess our weather came from the north (sometimes we get it
from storms coming up from Mexico), since you are likely only 50-60
miles away by crow.

Undoubtedly the change in the weather was caused by you having a new
scope to try: "Astronomer's Law" :-)

Not sure yet, as I set up with clear skys but within about 2 to 3 hours I
was packing it up and bring the ota inside because of the cold front and all
the clouds that moved in.

Right now the sky is totaly soaked in and the wind is like a knife made out
of ice!

I'll be taking my time with this scope, to see just how well it does under
my useage and then see what it may or may not need.
