Default Motor Drives on a Polaris Mount

Sorry they didnt give you a good answer. This group is famous for that!

Yes. Your interpretation is correct. When the power is ON the polar
drive
is tracking at sidereal rate without pressing any buttons. Just bring a
star to
the center of your eyepiece and you will see. On the DM1 controler there
is
a button for selecting two different slew rates 16x and 32x. Obviosuly
32 is
faster than 16. Once you have selected a slew rate then the four up/down
right/left in the center of the controler decide the motion you chose...
to center
an object in the eyepiece or whatever. Chose the slower rate to keep
an object in the crosshairs for potography.

There really is no website with these basic instructions for the Polaris
DM series
controlers that were sold in the American market. No instructions with
the mounts either. They prefer to keep you in the dark so you can pester
Orion or somebody and maybe you will get ****ed and trade the mount in
and buy another, with no instructions with it either! Years ago there
was a website that actually showed a
crude scan of a DM-1 controler, but that website is long dead. The best
thing to
have done was contact Vixen who put out these mounts and controlers,
then
Vixen would have replied to you in Japanese six months later asking: shu
chi ung
ga guhngogo koniciwah sama?

But you have figured it out. Go forth and enjoy! (smiling)

I have a few questions about tracking or slewing when using a Vixen
Polaris mount with 2 drives. I have never owned a mount with motor
drives and am a bit confused. If you use the DD-1 controller, does
the mount track at the appropriate speed automatically, and you use
the faster speeds (32X) for moving from object to object rapidly?
Because if the mount only tracks when your press a directional key
that does not seem very handy that is why I assume it's tracking at
the correct speed when turned on, and the other speeds are used for
moving about the sky. Is that correct? Is there an online resource
of FAQ where I could read up on motor driven mounts? Thanks!
