I think this is sufficiently on-topic stuff. Apologies if I'm wrong,
but here are two Arthur C. Clarke-related bits of news: 1) He has a short article on space elevators in _The Times_ of 24 September (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...794500,00.html ). In it he says, amongst other things: "The space elevator was the central theme in my 1978 science-fiction novel The Fountains of Paradise (soon to be a Hollywood movie)." 2) At 11.00 AM British time on Wednesday 5th October there's a half-hour interview on BBC Radio 4 with ACC to mark the 60th anniversary of his historic "Extra-Terrestrial Relays" article in Wireless World, conducted by Heather Couper, a regular broadcaster and writer on space and astronomy (http://www.hencoup.com/Heather.htm). In fact, she was on the R4 Today programme this morning or yesterday (I forget) talking about the Don Quixote mission to test asteroid-nudging technology. (http://www.newscientist.com/article....ine-news_rss20) For those not within R4's area, you can listen online. Click on the LISTEN LIVE button at the right time, in the top rightish part of the front page of http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/ . If you miss that, it will *probably* be available from from a few hours after the broadcast on the LISTEN AGAIN page (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/progs/listenagain.shtml) for at least a week. As it is a one-off, look for it under the title "Arthur C. Clarke: the Science and the Fiction". -- Nick |
